Last night at 6:00 am the RA on my floor woke everybody up.
She gathered us into the floor's lounge and told us that a boy named Steve Fanning who lived on the fourth floor had died in a frat fire at 4:00, 2 hours earlier.
She was crying and passed around a picture of him.
I knew Steve. We had a few classes together last semester and he sat two seats behind me in History this semester. I had worked with him on a few projects.
We weren't really friends, but he was a constant in my life. Steve lived a floor below me and I always saw him around my dorm building. He was also close with a boy I like named Dan, so I knew him through that.

I don't really know what to do now.
I don't really know how to go back to History class.
He died in a fucking fire. I can't imagine how frightened he must have been.

I tried making myself cry last night, but I just couldn't.
I keep calling my mother, but she's not getting her phone. I really need to talk to someone about this.

I'm so sorry about your loss hun.

I know, last year, a boy I went to school with in elementary was killed in a vehicle accident. I used to be really good friends with him. I know how you feel hun. If you want to talk, just note me. I'm here for ya

im like.....really sorry and scared right now. to know that you see someone everyday and talk to that person, and something like a fire can just take that all away is really frightening. i extend my deepest apologies right now.

I can't imagine how scary that must be .. just wow..

That whole situation in my head of you guys getting told about it early in the morning is just so .. devastating. How does one go back to sleep after that sort of thing?
